I messed up my computer!!!! HELP!!?

So i'm in the middle of doing nanowrimo (national novel writing month) and i was super tired so i went to get some water to wake up a little and dropped some on my keyboard. i didnt know there was still some on the keyboard until half an hour later when i noticed my down key wasnt working. I restarted my computer because i thought the down key thing might just be my computer acting up (sometimes some letters don't work and i just restart it and it's fine) but now when i try to turn it on it just does a bunch of high beeps like the "low battery warning" when you start up the computer on a low battery and then it shuts off when it still has a quarter of the loading bar to go. My dad told me he thinks it'll be fine and that because of the water it thinks that there's a key being pressed but i'm scared, because this is my first laptop and i dont want to have to do the rest of my nanowrimo on this crappy virus filled pc. also, if it doesn't ever turn on again, is there a way to get the memory out of my computer and into a new one? or even just onto a flash drive or something? i have files and programs on that computer that i really need! i have a dell inspiron 1654 if that helps, and it's always been a bit glitchy...I messed up my computer!!!! HELP!!?
Try powering the laptop off entirely, turning it upside-down, drying it lightly with a hair-drier (but not so that you melt the plastic - Be careful), then leaving it upside-down in a warm room for a couple of days. If you're very lucky, it might recover or at least regain some functionality. If the machine runs fine but the keyboard is still broken, try plugging in an external keyboard as a quick fix.

If it is truly borked beyond repair, you can probably get a computer-savvy person who knows what they're doing (emphasis on knows what they're doing) to open it and remove the hard drive, then load it into another machine or something so that you can get your data back (like the guy above me said).

In future if you spill something on a keyboard or laptop, don't touch any buttons (don't even shut it down) and immediately unplug the keyboard or remove the laptop battery, then dry it out in the way I said above for 2 days before using it again.I messed up my computer!!!! HELP!!?
Try unplugging the keyboard, the beeps might be the down key being pressed. That is probably it.I messed up my computer!!!! HELP!!?
I've mentioned this method a few times on here as a way of recovering files on an otherwise broken computer...

As you are using a laptop, inside will be a 2.5" Hard Disk Drive (either IDE or SATA).

On eBay, you can buy a small, cheap adapter that will let you plug a hard disk drive directly into a USB port on a WORKING computer. The working (host) computer will be used to perform the backup of your important stuff but essentially all you would need to do is to copy your files into a new folder on the host computer. Once your files are copied (make sure you copy the files and not just LINKS to files!) simply burn your data onto DVD or CDROM so that you can ERASE your personal stuff and send the broken machine for repair or scrapped for an insurance claim.

'Programs' themselves are not really essential as backup items as all you will need is the original installation cd's to get the programs back on.

Here is a link to see the adapter in question. It is on UK ebay but the adapters can be bought anywhere.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-2-0-SATA-IDE-C鈥?/a>

PS Laptop keyboards can be removed but it usually demands a bit of knowledge as certain screws would usually need to be taken out from the underside.

Here is an article on a slightly different model that explains how to remove components..

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy鈥?/a>

IF you can remove the keyboard, thoroughly dry it out with a hairdryer (for example!) and do the same to the laptop, being careful not to overheat anything!

Just be aware that electrical things can fail catastrophically when powered up with water in em so try to make sure it is bone dry before powering it up (even take the battery out)

This might save you going to the expense of getting the adapter mentioned but either way, good luck!

Well you already know this much by looking at the ad.

the year of the car, make, model, purchase price, engine size, transmission type, miles per gallon.

You can get estimates on line for this.

insurance, 4 tires,

You can contact a local repair shop for estimates on the maintenance costs.

oil change, tire rotation, coolant flush, transmission flush, alignment, shocks/struts (all four corners), front brakes (pads) rear brakes (pads or shoes) tune up (per cylinder numbers) battery.

You can do the math to calculate this.

maintenance total- purchase price, insurance price, maintenance price, fuel price, total price

Part of this homework assignment is knowing where to go to get the information and how to research the purchase options.I have to pretend to buy a car- please help- 10 points to best answer?

Do you think solar panel roadways linked across the country could reverse the effects of global climate change

My Idea for solving Hydrocarbon Problems

My idea consists of creating an electrical system placed upon our nations highways in the form of an interconnected highly durable plastic solar panel system. Imagine if all of our roads were covered with such a system! Once manufactured, in the form of large and long plastic rolls, the system would make up the top layer of the roadway.

Plastics are being developed now which can store charges (batteries), conduct electricity, produce light (flexible television screens), and I would not doubt- also provide magnetic properties. By adding silicon in different property levels of ionic charge distributions, according to the movement of electrons flowing from lower energy voids to higher, solar activation of propulsions would be easily achieved, stored, and be made available to all in need of energy supplies.

Charge current could be supplied to moving vehicles as they travel and vehicles would never need to leave the road to charge. This could be achieved by proximity of tires to the road through conductive wires located within the tires or even by methods not easily explained other than in laymen's terms. There are methods of charging by magnetic proximity which would be enhanced due to movement. Advances in understanding the magnetic properties associated to moving aluminum allow the use of aluminum in products not to mention the use of plastics for lightweight materials of vehicles. Carbon fiber materials are perspective as well.

All surfaces of vehicles, buildings, and walkways are possible locations for the development of solar power generating surfaces.

The importance of developing systems which cover roadways are unlimited. The system should be developed with the perspective of controlling vehicles; propelling vehicles by magnetic pulse, future levitation of vehicles by mirror action magnetic repulsion now seen in superconductive materials, traffic control, and accident prevention. Tracking of all users as well as communication and information and data transfer should be implemented into the construction process. Management of surface durability and ice prevention are also benefits.

The future of vehicle self-drive systems would be highly manageable due to the construction of these roadways as well as national security. As the use of liquid fuel engines would become obsolete in the near future, everyone on the roadways could be easily accounted for at all times.Do you think solar panel roadways linked across the country could reverse the effects of global climate change
The idea certainly makes me think...I love questions that make me ponder "now why didn't I think of that? It makes sense!" I'd like to answer a few questions and concerns which other answerers have brought to light.

Semi-trucks can't stop hauling because America lives through the goods the truckers haul. And up here in MN, the river barges bring up alot of goods, but they can only run when the river isn't frozen...we'd be in big trouble without the truckers running in the winter months.

The current road workers would simply switch materials, instead of laying asphalt and concrete, they'd lay solar panels and electrical wiring. And as for the oil industry employees, they can help maintain the new roadways. With a project like this, there'll be plenty to do and there'll be people who need that work.

If we can go from home-spun and wooden farm implements to tv and cell phones in 200 years, there's no reason why we shouldn't be able to go from asphalt and oil to solar panels and magnetic cars in another 200. The colonists would never have dreamed of the things we have now, the inventions we've come up with. So it's understandable that we now can't fathom using solar panels for roadways.

How will erasing our dependancy on oil and building electro-magnetic interstate highways revert us into a 3rd world country? We'd still be thriving and expanding, we'd be moving forward. Some 3rd world countries still have public plumbing in the streets and walk further everyday for dry wood to heat their homes and hearths.

What WOULD the durability of these panels be? Would we have to reduce speed limits (which increases travel time, thus making a moot issue of conservancy and prevention) so there'd potentially be fewer accidents?

As for Star Trek, you should have watched the show titled something like "How William Shatner Changed the World". The guy who invented cell phones got the idea from Kirk's communicator that he was constantly flipping out of his pocket.

I'd be willing to take part in such a venture as this, but I need more research done and stats provided because I can't answer anything about another person's concerns about CO2 or heat or friction. Plus, I have a question of my own. In the regions that get snow, plus those that flood, how will we prevent the electricity from shorting out? If I'm reading the original proposition correctly, electricity keeps traffic moving. Traffic standing still is generally something seen in big cities (or construction on the I-90 bridge here, LOL) So would little burbs of 50K people have traffic jams like LA notoriously does if the electricity shorts out?
Only if enought people stopped driving gas powered vehicles and all the semi trucks stopped hauling.Do you think solar panel roadways linked across the country could reverse the effects of global climate change
Who will set it up ?????????? Who will maintain it ???????? What about all the people who will lose their jobs in the oil industry ????????? Its not that easy.
It might work in Utopia but not here within the next couple hundred years. Construction and conversion costs would make it cost prohibitive.Do you think solar panel roadways linked across the country could reverse the effects of global climate change
Why not a grid covering every building, home and factory.
No. This idea is just more idiocy from a bunch of hate-America losers who want us to take a backseat to the third-world cesspools around the world. They are embarrassed that America's free-market capitalism has made this country the greatest the world has ever seen. We've come from a pipsqueak nation on the edge of nowhere to the greatest nation in terms of freedom, productivity and opportunity there has ever been in just 200 years or so. Nobody else even comes close. The libs don't like being Number One because somebody else has to be second. To them, that's not "fair." Fairness is an idiotic idea. You are either first, or you're nowhere.
While it would certainly reduce CO2 emissions, it would not necessarily reduce global heating, which appears to be your baseline question. Solar panels take energy which would possibly be reflected or radiated back in to space by the higher-albedo ground and instead convert the sunlight to electricity. The electricity is converted to work, which ultimately becomes heat in the form of friction losses, or in heat for your electric motors (if you didn't have friction losses, a car could just roll forever on a flat plain). So, solar panels also contribute to planetary heating, but without the hazards of CO2 emissions. They might contribute less heat overall, however, but I've never seen anyone do the calculations to prove that.
This is an awesome idea!

Are there any progressive engineers and venture capitalists out there up to the challenge? Could it realistically be done? Are there any unseen drastic maintenance issues like durability? What traffic load could a system like this bear reasonably? What kind of return on investment could a financier or the people see? Would this create new jobs? What kind?

I love seeing answers like this. They are so creative. Perhaps some or all of this will be used or cause the generation of other ideas as well. :)
this is all very star trek, like in star trek, inorder for there to be a change, most of the world would have to be devastated. hopefully not in our lifetime.
Reversal is quite difficult but the effects to global climate change can however be lessened to some extent in future.
Honestly, I think this is a very realistic goal for improving air quality and suplying energy.

You wouldn't want to use it as a road surface, as deposits from tire treads would degrade its productivity, but such a system could easily be constructed alongside roadways and rail systems. Panels would not have to be as wide as a roadway, as you have virtually unlimited linear space.

However, I don't think it will make a difference in global climate change. The primary driving force for "global warming" is not man-made polution, but natural phenomena such as volcanic eruptions. People probably have SOME effect, but its a bit like the whole tea-cup-in-the-swimming-pool thing.

There's nothing that can be done about global warming. Remember that the earth's climate is in a constant cycle from cold to hot, and back to cold. I'm sure you've heard of ice ages.
why not? You plan looks well researched and i cant see anything that couldnt happen.

Is it safe to take this car on a long trip next summer?

Ok, here's the deal:

I'm planning on taking a long trip this coming summer and will be passing by many mountainous areas in Colorado, Utah, California, etc. I won't be off roading or anything though, just visiting a bunch of the National Parks and stuff. I'm wondering if you think my car is up to the task!

I've got a 2001 Olds Alero, V6, 88,000 miles right now. By the time I plan on leaving in June, it will probably have about 95,000 miles on it. I've done the calculations, and I'll be putting probably between 5000-6000 miles on the car during this trip. I've got newer tires, newer battery, and haven't really had too many problems with the car. If you think it's safe to take this car on a long trip like this, what would you recommend me tuning up before I left? Oil change and a new air filter before I leave is a given.

thanks! Is it safe to take this car on a long trip next summer?
I love Gm vehicles, better than ford but the mileage is at the point were things like alternators, water pumps power steering pump and even the transmision might blow a seal... before you leave take it to a reputable mechanic to see if you have any leaks from these areas, that is the innitial sign of a failure. Im not a mechanic by trade but by hobby..Most important, check to see if its a timing belt or chain on that car and check what the suggested replacement mileage is.. that $30 parts could cost on the road days and $1000's

Ive been working on cars for 30 years
That motor in the Olds where wonderful work horses and run forever. I would look at putting new plugs, wires, Serpentine belt, thermostat, and Fuel filter in prior to leaving, Carry a basic tool kit with you with in the event that something may happen. I make it habit to have an extra set of plugs, fluid (Oil, anti-freeze, windshield washer, and distilled water) on trips like this as you never know what may happen. If it's been a while since you have done it, you may want to inspect the upper and lower radiator hoses as well, make sure there are no soft spots on the hoses and they do not show signs of brittleness. Pull your wheels and check the brake pads to make sure your not down to the limit on the brakes, some of the hills in these areas can destroy already worn brakes. Also have the braking system bled before you go to make sure you have maximum stopping power. Nothing is worse then to be heading down a hill and find out your not able to stop. A good once over of the transmission is also a good check, if you have not had it done in the last 30K miles have the transmission serviced. old fluid in the transmission and cut a trip short really fast when your pulling steep hills on a hot day. having good clean fresh fluid in the transmission will greatly improve your likely hood of having an uneventful journey. Have a great trip.Is it safe to take this car on a long trip next summer?
I took my 1994 Ford Explorer on a 3000 mile trip and it ran amazingly. just take it to a mechanic to make sure everything is up to snuff. you're vehicle is still a baby. dont underestimate it.
If the car is running well now I think it will make it. Bring it to a mechanic before you go and have them give it the once over. Be sure to make them aware of the trip.Is it safe to take this car on a long trip next summer?
You shouldn't have any problems if you've kept up the oil changes and done routine maintenance, then this engine should last for 200k miles.

Before you go, inspect belts for cracks, if you haven't changed radiator hoses, then I'd highly recommend it.

Not sure if the engine uses a timing chain or belt, but if it runs a belt and you haven't changed it yet, then I recommend that too.

And then just before you leave, have your mechanic check it out for last minute potential problems.
I would have the following checked/done by a reputable shop/mechanic:

1. brakes - very important in the mountains

2. transmission

3. general tune up.

For the driver(s) - study mountain driving. Do NOT ride the brakes; let the car speed up, then brake heavily to drop the speed by a large amount; then coast again. This gives the brakes an opportunity to cool down. Do downshift the transmission when going down steep hills.

If the brakes do fail - head for small trees, dirt, etc to slow you down - do not worry about destroying the car - your life is more valuable.

Check the oil, tranmission fluid and the brake fluid levels EVERYTIME you get fuel. Carry a couple bottles of each with you. Read your owners manual.
I wouldn't unless you want to change the intake and or head gaskets on your trip, happy vacationing.
That's the 3100 V6 from GM right? If I'm not mistaken those should be fairly fine. If you want to be safe you should do your 100,000 mile tune-up before you go on the trip.
I drove my 96' Chevy Silverado from Louisiana to California, and drug a car back on a tow dolly. My truck had 150,000 miles on it at the time, but I took good care of the truck.

What do people think of unfettered capitalism as it is practiced in China (see details)?

We have a nice little experiment going on in the most populous country in the world. Capitalism is flourishing and for the most part, there is very little government regulation into how companies are doing business.

The government's role is to promote their national industries and aid them in doing business with the rest of the world. But safety rules, labor regulation, and quality inspections are practically nil.

The results have been seen here, with poisoned pet food, exploding tires and cell phone batteries, tainted antibiotics etc flooding the US market. Imagine how bad it is on the shop floor of a Chinese factory!

The other side is that recently, Chinese government officials have been found to have accepted bribes from Chinese companies to look the other way on enforcement of what regulations they do have. A couple of top officials have been arrested and quickly EXECUTED. How about that for accountability!

What do Americans think of this system? What do people think of unfettered capitalism as it is practiced in China (see details)?
We went through the same thing. It is part of the growth system. That controls will come and the businesses and workers will be better off and communism will die. The child that is learning makes many mistakes but you would not consider a lobotomy for the child to make it stay a child and curtail it's mistakes.

I think the man deserved to be executed and if we enforced our laws we would be better off too. What do people think of unfettered capitalism as it is practiced in China (see details)?
So which is it? Unfettered Capitalism or people being executed for corruption? What do people think of unfettered capitalism as it is practiced in China (see details)?
pure propaganda!!!
If your a employer great.

If your a worker..well theres the razor blade and the sleeping tablets, and try not to get blood on the floor..

Unfettered Capitalism - great if everyone is a employer..I suppose....wherever that is.

  • I want to join the national guard...but...?

When I was 16 I was convicted of "sexual battery". Basically what happened is my high-school girlfriends parents found out we were having sex and freaked out. They didn't want to admit their daughter was being bad so they conjured up some bs saying I forced myself on her. Anyway, I spent a couple months in juvi and was eventually convicted of sexual battery(felony). The judge said I would never have to say anything to anyone so I never did. In 2009(9 years later...i'm now 26)I talked to a recruiter with the army. I did the "honest" thing and disclosed everything to him. I was denied. Someone arbitrarily says to me "oh. Just go have your record sealed. No biggie!" so I talked to the juvenile probation department about this. They tell me, very enthusiastically, that "this happens all the time! People are always having their records sealed to join the military. No biggie." I get it sealed. I talk to a different recruiter. I make it to meps. I pass all the tests. I sign my contract. I pick my job. I'm on my way........5 minutes before swearing in "umm...excuse me Mr. (name withheld)...can I speak to you for a moment?" apparently something popped up on my FBI background check. Gee. I wonder what it was! So I was denied....again....

I've recently moved out of state to find a better job. I now have a better job. Ironically enough I work for the state. Their preemployment background check consists of taking all 10 fingerprints and sending em off to the DOJ(department of justice)/FBI. Nothing came up.

So...my question is this: WHAT THE HELL?

Can someone PLEASE give a straight, legitimate answer!?! I really would like to serve in the national guard. And I'm tired of getting misinformation and bs.

Is there any hope?I want to join the national guard...but...?
having a sealed record doesnt mean anything, its still viewable by the military and those who handle DOD background checks. depending on what state job you have it may or may not be something that they dig for. some background checks date back to the day you were born, some only the last couple years. also what you were convicted of might not mean anything to your employer especially considering that it was as a juvi... however it is a big deal to the military.I want to join the national guard...but...?
It's possible that when you moved out of state, the new employer only ran you for that state. Try to speak with the recruiter near you now, maybe he can explain it. also you can contact the courts and they can re-write your juvenile rec. A friend of mine had a charge on him from when he was 14, and the military would not except him due to it being a felony to the military. Same happened to him at meps. Years later he spoke to the n. guard recruiter and the recruiter went and spoke to the courts and explained that if the words could just be changed from breaking and entering (opened a car door and grabed something that wasn't his, but broke nothing) to unlawful entry, he could serve our country and join the military. vwola poof the courts made it happen and he is proudly serving in the n guard 2 years now. But it's true they do look at sealed records. you have to get the felony part out of your record.

Hello! I wanted to know the difference between the noise of a bad wheel bearing and bad brakes.?

I recently went to National tire and battery to get an oil change, also to have them do a general inspeciton since its free. so they did it and they told me that my whole braking system is bad, the calipers, brake pad, and rotors, so basically the whole system. anyway i knew that there was something going on especially with the driver side wheel because i hear a whurring noise when i accelerate, I guess you would describe it as so. when i push down on my brakes they do float so i know that the brakes need to be done, also they said that my side the caliper is broken and fused so i want to know if that could cause that whurring noise or could it be the wheel bearing?Hello! I wanted to know the difference between the noise of a bad wheel bearing and bad brakes.?
the best way to diagnose a wheel bearing when changing lanes or going around a turn such as a jug handle. if the pitch changes or the sound goes away when you do that its a bearing. what your doing is putting or taking the weight of the car on and off the bearing. if the noise never changes its prob not a bearing. also if you jack up the car and grab the tire at the top and bottom, there should be no play. if it moves. its a bearing.
A humming sound will appear on drive mean the bearing, and can be crosscheck by turn and shake the wheel while it's on jack. For brake, most caliper probelm is a broken seal and rusted piston, piston can be cleaned and seal can be replace by the caliper kit. The rest won't need to replace by damage if normal driving is on most time. For the noise been heard, try to clean the pad that may dirty by pad dust. Resurface the pad and disc may needed if both not flat by hard braking on most time.Hello! I wanted to know the difference between the noise of a bad wheel bearing and bad brakes.?
You need to run from those folks. They are gyp artists and they really got your number. Go to an honest shop. The "free" inspection isn't really free, is it? They will be happy to take your money for a whole new brake system that you don't need if the problem is a noisy wheel bearing. The caliper is not broken and fused. Bet on that. Those are some scary expressions, aren't they? You didn't bring the car in on a tow truck, which you would have with all the things wrong they say.

I had a shop like that tell me I needed a new battery. I bought tires and wheel alignment that I knew I needed because that's all I went there for, but not a battery. They did loosen one battery cable so it would be troublesome later on when the weather turned. I cleaned and tightened the cable. I know how much to trust shops telling me my non problem is going to be a failure.
screeeeechHello! I wanted to know the difference between the noise of a bad wheel bearing and bad brakes.?
it could be the wheel bearing or a caliper can do it if it,s not releasing the pads away from the rotor. usually with a caliper you should only hear it when you hit the brake. i would say the wheel bearing.
Wheel bearings will usually make noise anytime the car is moving, sometimes even more when turning. Brakes typically make noise when you apply the brakes. I would get a second opinion from a different mechanic. Some of these places just want to replace everything when only some of the components are bad.

What Do I Do About My Car?

I took my car to National Tire and Battery on April 2, 2011 for my March car inspection. The person inspecting the car had me pull into the parking lot and had me turn on my lights and turn signals and then had me drive to the door for him to add oil and other fluids to my car. My car NEVER entered the inside of the garage for the wheels to be looked at or for my brakes to be checked. Another mechanic then came over and put on an inspection sticker and then I was done. Now I found out that the rods on the struts are so bad and cracked that my car shouldn't have passed inspection. Struts ARE a part of safety for having a car inspected in PA. What can I do? My cousin is a mechanic and gave me a list of codes that were violated and it's now a possibility my car is invalid. I have a 4 year old so I don't want to mess with anything but I need to get this resolved. People shouldn't be allowed to inspect cars and pass ones that highly dangerous. Do I contact a lawyer? The company that inspected my car? The BBB? Can anyone help? What Do I Do About My Car?
I wish you had listed the year, make and model of your car so we could try to figure tot what you mean by "rods" on your struts. I've got to believe these are your anti-roll bar "links" between the side of the strut body and the anti-roll bar. These are not expensive and easy to replace.
they just slapped the sticker on it without checking it out? i live in PA too and i want my car safe when i hit the roads. go tell the state police what they did and his license could be lifted and a heavy fine to pay. here where i live you can have the police check your car and if they find out it,s not safe all they have to do is look at the sticker. the inspection guys name is at the bottom. What Do I Do About My Car?
They messed up. Tell them that you will need to contact the state police safety inspector to challenge this inspection if they do not make your car safe. They are responsible. If you live in a county with emissions the phone number is on the bottom of the report and their web site is on your license plate.
The State Highway Patrol usually handles the State Inspectors. Call them and they will look at your car and pull the guys license for doing a crapy job! It sucks cause he will probably get fired for it! But thats the priceWhat Do I Do About My Car?
if your car is sick get it repaired, for your safety and others

Where should I take my car to fix an oil leak?

My 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara has a pretty bad oil leaking problem. I am not sure what part it is leaking from but I know it needs to be fixed. My father told me a long time ago, when a part on your car breaks, take it to a shop that specializes in fixing that problem. For example, if your condenser in your car breaks take it to a shop that specializes in fixing A/C problems... etc. I have no idea where to take my car to for the oil leaking problem. I know the guys at the body shop would give me cheaper labor because I have used them before, and I trust the guys at National Tire and Battery but that would be silly of me to take it to a collision place or a tire place to fix an oil leak problem...

So where should I take it?Where should I take my car to fix an oil leak?
Most of the time an oil leak happens when the oil filter or the drain plug become loose so just a simple tightening would do the trick. If you already know the guys in National then take your car to them as they also do oil and filter change ( most of the time they do discounted offers on oil change) they will be able to tell where the leak is coming from.

If it's a more sinister situation like a porous sump or gasket leak then you'll have to take the car to a proper garage.
A repair shop that specializes in imports- Japanese. DO NOT GO TO THE DEALER!! As for the leak it could be the sump gasket or the drain plug. I have a hunch its the sump gasket.Where should I take my car to fix an oil leak?
Look into Checkbook Magazine on general auto repair shops in you area. Their ratings are only from customers that have used these shops and are based on bad and good reports.
first find out where the oil is leaking from.. place news paper under he engine to see what area the oil is coming from.. then you can repair it yourself or ask again ok..Where should I take my car to fix an oil leak?

    Have a question about struts?

National Tire and Battery is great notifying you of potential problems. We have a 2008 Toyota Sienna w/25500 miles, front tires worn (that we noticed seems more than they should be for a 1 1/2 old vehicle). NTB told us 1 of front struts is leaking oil (they actually showed me) the strut was not dry there was enough oil to smear enough off to cover your finger. Took the vehicle to the dealer and they actually told me that the front struts were NOT leaking and even told the person who worked on it to come out and tell me. I'm trying to find out about struts to see if this is a real problem or should this be pursued because I only have about 10,000 miles left under warranty? What would you say, are there any mechanics out there? Thank you very much in considering my question.Have a question about struts?
National Tire and Battery is great at trying to scam you. its a common play used by many shady mechanics; smear some oil on the strut and say its leaking. however, you did the right thing and took it to the dealership where your car was still under warranty. if your strut was really leaking oil, you would feel somewhat of a difference in terms of ride quality,

if you want to be on the same side. wipe down the strut with degreaser and get it nice and clean. then after a couple days to a week, check the strut to see if it is actually leakingHave a question about struts?
oil on a strut could come from anywhere, NTB mah have just been trying to get you to but some "snake oil"....

  • NTB crashed my truck at their garage?

I brought my truck into National Tire and Battery for new tires and an oil check, plus more check-up work. It's a standard transmission Chevrolet Silverado. And they called me just before to inform me, "Your truck had an accident and smashed against an air tank (or something along those words)." There was a pause and they said it was minor, but I need to go in.

Is it NTB's fault? I have valid insurance that will take care of property damage and the truck itself but still. I think they didn't know how to properly drive a stick-shift but... It's a mechanic place. They should be familiar.NTB crashed my truck at their garage?
If it were me, I would hold them fully accountable, then I'd sue for the depreciation of the vehicle.NTB crashed my truck at their garage?
Yeah, it's their fault. Typically your insurance will pay you to get the repairs, but then your insurance will go after the shop's insurance for the money.NTB crashed my truck at their garage?

    Ford Focus Power Start Help?

Hey all. So I am here with a little predicament:

I drive a '05 Ford Focus ZX3. Well, my car lately has had the problem of having rough starts. When you turn the ignition on it kindle of rumbles and takes a few more seconds then normal to start up. This has been going on for like a year now. When the car does start up, it runs fine, except the Air Bag Light is ON on the dashboard. I have no idea what this means, once again its been on for like a year. Well, yesterday my car decided to totally die on me. This is weird because I left nothing on and the battery is almost new - got it a year ago from Walmart. Well, I thought it was just a bad battery, so I took it to NTB (National Tire and Battery) and they ran a check and said "Yes, I need a new battery". So I bought the battery and they told me the same problem I have been having, which once again was: the car has a hard/rough/long start as well as the air bag light being on. So, the whole day I was using the car fine, it was turning on and off fine (with the rough start of course). Well, when I got it home last night it completely died again. I tried turning on the car this morning and it is still dead. Nothing will turn on or even click. I have no idea what the problem is and I know I have to get a diagnostics, but I don't have a lot of money to turn over right now. HELP! What should I do? If you need any other info just let me know!Ford Focus Power Start Help?
If it runs fine when its warmed up, the ECU adjusts for any misfunctions.

But when its cold is where you need to look.

    1.Cold start Idle Solenoid.
    2.PCV (Positive Crank Ventilation Valve)
    3.Coil Pack

    or

ok well get out there and give everyone your resume, even if they don't say they are hiring. try working in contruction. a friend of mine did that in his grade 11 year and he bought a BMW for his grad...so it's good money, even if you don't have "experience"Best job thats always hiring!!!! for 19 year old male?
You should try the customer service to talk to people on the phone. It should pay better than Ups, Fedex.Best job thats always hiring!!!! for 19 year old male?
Resturaunts work well with scheduling and decent pay.
UPS has good benefits (tuition reimbursment, insurance) and starts out pretty decently ($8.50). They are ALWAYS hiring for people to load trucks. They have 3 different shifts, I think. So if you wanted to take classes during the day, and work at night, there would be no problems. I know a few of my guy friends have worked there. They liked it because the company was quite flexible. Waiting is also a good thing to look into. My boyfriend works at a restuarant and can make around $100 a shift, just on weekdays. Good Luck!

What's with all of the abbreviations?

And I'm not talking about texting. I mean when there is a phrase or a company name or even a process, it has to be abbreviated. Example:

    National Tire and Battery= NTB

    Politically Correct= PC

  • Should I buy new tires?

I drive a 2004 Ford Ranger and I cant tell if i should buy new tires or not. Where the rim meets the tire, its starting to tear quite badly. I went to National Tire and Battery about 3 months ago and they said they look bad. I got 32,000 miles on my truck and i got Goodyear Wrangler tires

Please Help. ThanksShould I buy new tires?
I have the exact truck and tires. I was very

un-impressed with the Wrangler's durability and road noise. I just got a quote from Dobbs for Discoverer ATR's at $126 a piece. It's a higher load rated tire than the stock Wranglers, and from what I can see an all around value tire. Nothing high tech, but not cheap junk either.

    Hope this helps.
If you have 32,000 miles on those tires, it's probably about to change them. Especially if they are tearing apart. Remember that those things spin very fast, and your life is really in their hands. They're important little pieces of rubber!

Yes, go ahead and change them out if they are physically falling apart.Should I buy new tires?
I would definetly replace any tire right away that has a tear,

especially on the sidewall even if the tread is still good.

Make sure to replace both tires on the same axle at the

    same time.
If the tires are tearing at the rim then they definitely need replacing. Nothing worse than a blowout in traffic, which is what you're headed for.Should I buy new tires?
If you think it needs tires and a tire place said you need tires, then duh yeah, replace the tires.
if the side wall is pulling away the you definitely need new tires......I won't make a reccomendation.....but I run UNIROYAL "Liberators" on my truck!!! good luck!!!
that usually means your tires are starting to dry rot if you dont change them you might want to expect a blow out
    Get new tires
yes and stay away from the curbs .
i would get new tires if i was you
    yeah

Oil plug fell out on the highway, oil change people admitted fault, what do I do?

I got my oil changed last Wednesday and today (9 days later) on the highway on my way to work I hear a thud, and then I see smoke billowing out the backside of my car. I drive about a mile or so more and then pull over after the oil light comes on. AAA tows me back to National Tire %26amp; Battery who admits that they didn't tighten the plug correctly. The car seems to be running fine now, but what if my engine is screwed up? Should I do anything else?Oil plug fell out on the highway, oil change people admitted fault, what do I do?
If NTB admitted fault and they have corrected the problem and the car is fine, then I think you are done. You might take it to a dealership and have their service department check it out for you. However, this is probably on your dime. Document in writing dates, times, and names of people at NTB that spoke to you about this. Down the road you may need this information is something goes wrong. However, it sounds like you, and NTB got lucky.Oil plug fell out on the highway, oil change people admitted fault, what do I do?
You drove it a mile or more without oil I would say you engine is toast. See if National Tire will pay for the damages and they should but if you kept driving their insurance may not pay for a complete rebuild. Good luck.Oil plug fell out on the highway, oil change people admitted fault, what do I do?
The engine should be perfectly fine as long as you shut it off the moment the oil light came on.

Your engine had oil pressure and enough lubrication up to the point when the oil pressure light came on. The engine can also run for a very short time without oil pressure without damage.

Did you know that every time you change your oil, when the engine is first started, it has no oil pressure for up to 5 seconds? However the owner is usually not around to hear all of the engine clatter when the engine is started. Anyone who changes their own oil has experienced this first hand.

If the engine now runs fine, and has no unusual noises that weren't there before this incident happened, there is no damage.

However I would press to have National Tire %26amp; Battery to pay for your towing, the current oil change, the oil change that they did, the replacement oil plug, and the cost of the rental car if you used one while your car was incapacitated.

It isn't really right to press for a complete rebuild if the engine wasn't really dammaged. Don't become one of those people who will sue at the drop of a hat to attempt to get sopmething that you really don't deserve. Let your concience be your guide and do the right thing.

By the way, I have a story to tell. Last year at a local car show they had a car blow up contest. They had an old junk car which they drained all of the oil from the engine. You placed $1 bets on how long the engine would run without oil.

They started the car and ran it at full throttle. It kept running for more than 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, since it was still running thet started pouring sand into the valve cover and into the carburetor. It still ran for another 5 minutes.

I do have to say that in about the first 30 seconds or so something in the engine broke, sounded like a valve or a valve spring, and the engine would not rev much higer than 4000 RPM.

    I wouldn't recommend attempting this.

    Lawyer Question About Car Repair?

I had work done by NTB (National Tire %26amp; Battery). They replaced the two front break pads and rotors and shaved the rear wheel drums in the back tires. Not even an hour later my caliper fell off the car when I was driving and lost all break fluid and could not break at all. Luckily I was on a side road and pulled off to the side. If I was on a major highway I could of killed someone. They sent a tow truck and fixed everything free of charge and issued a full refund for services. I was wondering if I could take legal action? I am in Baltimore, MD. This is a national buisness and I am very upset that the tech obvioisly doesn't know what he was doing. They didn't even fire him... Anyway someone let me know please.Lawyer Question About Car Repair?
What would you take legal action for? They already "made you whole" so to speak by repairing everything and giving you a refund. To sue successfully you need to show damages, and you don't have any.

That said, it does sound like they messed up pretty badly. I would recommend sending a complaint letter to the owner/manager of the store where the repairs were done as well as corporate headquarters. You could also explain what happened on business review sites such as yelp. It won't get you anything, but it will decrease the likelihood of this happening to someone else.Lawyer Question About Car Repair?
Yeah you can, Judge Judy that shnizzle.

Ask them what torque setting they did they did the caliper bolts too and how they suspensed the caliper whilst swapping out the pads. They may of bled the system and left a bleed nipple loose also. If that happens again then use the lower gears and handbrake to slow the car. I am interested to know if this is regarded as a civil matter when it could have been life endangering.Lawyer Question About Car Repair?
since you were not at a monetary loss and there was not property damage, what would you sue for?

anyone can sue for almost any thing but you would need to find a lawyer that would make something up like you lost time from work or suffered a financial loss due to their negligence
They repaired the mistake and issued you a full refund.

What, do you want them to pay for your soiled underwear?

    Lost Check at work?

Im freaking out right now, I work at National Tire%26amp; Battery, today this lady gave me a check for like $646 and some change, I forgot how much exactly the ceck was but my manager called me and said when he was balncing the register out that check was missing, and I cant remember where it is, what happens next? can we void it, and get another one written? What happens if the customer wants to be a jerk and say"No, im not paying"?Lost Check at work?
I hate to say this, but you may have been scammed. If the check does not show up at work and you cannot remember taking it from the customer and putting it into the cash drawer, she may well have not handed the check to you or confused you and taken it back.

If the woman is a loyal customer, your boss may be able to contact her and ask her to cancel the original check and issue another one. She may actually inadvertedly put her checkbook away after writing the check, and just forgot to take the check out of the checkbook and hand it to you.

Make sure that your manager pulls the drawer completely out and checks in the area where the drawer slides into, under the springs and in between the drawer itself and the insert that holds the bills and coins, static has been known to cause checks to slide in between the drawer(s) and inserts and cause them to stick out of sight.

Make sure that you or he looks under the actual drawer also, and everywhere below the cash out area, pull forward all the wires from the computer tower and look on the shelf or shelves below the area, it could have fallen as you were taking it, if you got distracted; and you didn't realize it.

If you live close enough to travel to the store and help your manager look for the check, you should do so. Even if you offer to go in and help look, that will be a helpful gesture on your part.

Hopefully, the check will be found and you will not be having a talk with your manager concerning the responcibily of handling cash for the business.

Think positive, it will most likely turn up and everything will be fine. If it does not, and you still remain working there, you will have to become more dilligent about completing sales transactions and putting all forms of payment securely where they belong before the customer leaves the premises.

Good luck, I hope everything works out well for you.
You can probably try and get another, but if they say that they won't write another one...then I'm not sure what to do. If I was the buyer than how would I know that the check was really lost or that if you did find it that you would shred it? Those would be my concerns as a consumer. It wouldn't be my fault that the check was lost.Lost Check at work?
You can offer to pay the "stop payment" fee that the customer will be charged by her bank for cancelling that check. Then all she's out is another check from her checkbook, and those are cheap.
if u can track the customer they will oblige(kinda by law i think)Lost Check at work?
This is just a thought, but you could contact the customer and ask her if she could put a stop payment on the check (your company should re-imburse her the fee to do that) and write another check. I think if you explain the situation with her you shouldn't have a problem. One thing, check underneath the drawer in the till. Sometimes cash or checks fall in that area.
I would ask the woman to put a stop payment on the chack but take $20 off of her bill (or whatever the amount is that her bank charges to stop payment) most people will be understanding about it especially if you compensate her the cost.
I hate to say it but you are pretty screwed dude...

The customer provided you with payment and if you go after them they will most likely say "Your Fault... Too Bad... I can't prove the check is "lost"."

It is on the heads of the company that lost it... not the customer... because the customer acted in good faith and provided payment upon request.

    But the big question is:

    WHO

    LOST

    IT?

    You or your manager?

If you are sure that the check ended up where the check was supposed to go then the manager could have lost it when he was moving the contents from the register to the office or where ever he counts it?

If there is no way to prove who lost it you shouldn't be held responsible because it might not have been you!!!!

    Just stay calm...

    Think things out logically...

Do what you can to help...

DON'T ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY UNTIL YOU ARE SURE WHAT HAPPENED!!!!

Hopefully it just slid under something and will be found in the morning!!

    Good Luck! *HUG*

    NTB - Oil Change?

I have a coupon for a National Tire %26amp; Battery Oil Change... I wanted to know if anyone had any comments or reviews on their services. I've been told to be aware of "cheap" oil changes. Any thoughts?

ps. My car really needs its oil changed asap!NTB - Oil Change?
I would stay away from Penzoil, but other than that I would be ok with it.NTB - Oil Change?
most places that offer coupons on oil changes use recycled oil for their oil changes, its not a bad oil but would recommend a better brand such as caster oil. If you ask for a certain brand to be put in your car they will do it for you, it might cost a few dollars more but its worth it.

I have a 2006 Nissan Murano. I do some driving out in the country to look at properties, so I do need some decent tread. Additionally, I have to consider safety because my hubby is 100% disabled, unable to walk, and I need a reliable brand so I don't have to worry about being stuck somewhere.

I've looked at Discount Tires, and they have quite an inventory to choose from.

I looked also at NTW (National Tire and Battery), and they claim this size tire is for "special order", so not readily available.

Is there a good land-locked store that would carry a decent variety of tires, with good after-the-sale service?

Live in North Texas area. I put on under 1000 miles per month. I'd like the tires to last about approx. 5 years before replacing. Price, under $200 per tire would be great!

    Thank you for your assistance!

There are lots of tires in this size; NTW evidently doesn't want to bother.

I'm a fan of the Tire Rack, an Internet storefront that drop-ships tires to an installer in your area. (And they have feedback ratings for the installers, so if you have a choice, you can specify the better one.) In this particular size, the most expensive tire they offered was $206; most of them were in the $150 range. Figure $600 for a set of four, plus road-hazard coverage, which costs a little extra; your local installer will charge you maybe $75-100.

Goodyear manufacturers more than one model of tire. There may also be different sizes available for the Pontiac. You'll need to include that information as well. How much is a tire from goodyear for a 2006 pontiac grand prix gt?
if you want to put a name brand tire of the same model the car had new your going to pay big, that is how tire companies make lots of their money, people want that same smooth ride they had on their car new and believe it or not lots of people will pay the extra for that. so the tire companies jump on it.

Why in the hell would you ask a bunch of anonymous strangers who are just going to make up an answer instead of calling the place you plan on doing business and asking them directly?

First I would call the credit card company and find out why it was rejected. It my be something simple and you can go and use it after all. If nothing can be done talk to National Tire and Battery and see what you can work out with them. They may take payments.Well I want to know I went to National Tire and Battery to get my car serviced but y card was declined and now
You answered your own question. You have no money to pay services already rendered..HELLO?! That's like saying you went to the grocery store and just started to eat food and open up a gallon of milk to drink, I'd say you're a thief if you didn't pay for it after you already ate it. So, basically, you stole.Well I want to know I went to National Tire and Battery to get my car serviced but y card was declined and now
Can you maybe offer them minimum monthly payment? Or see if you can borrow the money from a relative, friend or bank! Yes legal action will be taken if it's not paid, probably Small Claims Court.
I agree with Ziggy. I had a $2,500 transaction denied once because it didn't fit my usual charging pattern. I usually charged transactions of less than $100, so the credit card company thought my card or number had been stolen. When I called them to find out why, they approved the transaction.

Now when I'm going to charge a large purchase, I call them first.

How much to replace Valve stem seals at a shop like National Tire and Battery or dealership?

I have a Mazda protege DX 4 door sedan. It is a 4 Cly engine. I know they have hourly rates. How many hours do you think it will take? Are the parts expensive. Is it a big job? Thanks. How much to replace Valve stem seals at a shop like National Tire and Battery or dealership?
It should take them no more than 10 minutes for all 4 wheels. How much to replace Valve stem seals at a shop like National Tire and Battery or dealership?
If you are replacing the valve stem seals in your tires, why not do it yourself?

Go to an Autozone and get four new valve stem seals, and the tool for removing them (it is only a few bucks).

Remove the cap, and insert the tool down the stem; once you feel it slide into the groove on the valve itself turn it to the left. **Don't put your face directly behind the vavle stem as air will be comming out from the tire pressure and it is possible for the little valve inside to come out in a hurry.**

After removing the old valve, quickly insert the new valve into the stem and screw it in; then check the tire pressure to see how much air you need to put in to top it off.

I would say this is an "easy" job; just make sure the new valve is inserted correctly!

What vehicle businesses can I apply to?

I worked at Lowes until being hurt. Now I work at McDonalds...of course I'm unsatisfied. I have worked on cars for years helping Dad with his truck and then having that truck and fixing it myself. Also worked on others with him and his friend who buys junk muscle cars and restores them.

I was wondering what places I could apply to that would openly take me with intermediate experience, but not professional. I was looking at Valvoline Instant Oil Change which require no experience, however, they weren't hiring. Unique jobs, I want ideas to where I can be busy at work and be happy to do what I'm doing, or at least feel like I actually helped someone.

Mostly anything is appreciated hehe. ThanksWhat vehicle businesses can I apply to?
Any place like Valvoline - whatever is in your town - - Jiffy Lube, Walmart Auto Dept, Sam's Club.

Why is my car so loud?

When idling its perfectly silent. The loud sound comes in under acceleration of any type. Its a normal engine sound, but just augmented greatly. It usually kicks in around 3000rpm, but then fades out when I accelerate harder, and comes back in again around 5-6000 rpm. When the car is in park, and I rev it, no noise, perfectly silent. Its a CVT engine, and while its usually pretty loud, this is extreme. I was able to recreate the noise by putting the parking break on and shifting into drive and reving the engine. Its not a knocking, or pinging noise, the CVT usually has a constant small, barely noticable ticking sound that has been there since day one. The noise all started after I left a valvoline instant oil change, i returned to the hack shop after I realized they put in 5w-30 instead of 5w-20. Even with the correct oil the sound remains. The car drives completely fine, just a bit loud. Its border line bad *** sounding, and obnoxiously loud. Why is my car so loud?
your muffler could be replased or you could be pushing the moter too hard with i dont think soWhy is my car so loud?
    replace the muffler.

the muffler may have broke causing it to make noise.

Well you have a lot of areas of concern......

1 year of manager experience -- 2 years of machining experience..

Is that all? what have you been doing for the rest of your work history?

    Are you only 21?

Employers want to see if you are dependable, and hardworking - this means uninterrupted work history.

Plus - employers today will be calling EACH of your past jobs

I don't see why not. Except that I am not ineterested in what you did the first month. I am more interested in your consistent outstanding performance over time.Would you hire me (employers only)?
Given the varying positions you've held, using so much jargon probably won't help you much. You'll want to elaborate upon a special achievement or two in the cover letter, but make sure you're focusing it towards the position for which you're applying.
It sounds good to me but if you really want success you should tailor your resume to what field you want to get into. I think your experience and background is good but you need to get employers to see how it relates to the job you are applying for. This information can be detailed in a cover letter, too.

Figure out what industry you want to get into and then choose a position you want to target. Go from there and then it will be easier to highlight your qualities and experience based on what skills you think you will need.

  • Why don't people like Walmart?

I took my car to a Valvoline Instant Oil Change in December. They screwed up and cross threaded my filter and the Walmart tech's discovered. Valvoline refused to accept responsibility even though I had proper documentation to prove as well as the filter which appeared to have been forced. I told my local manager of Walmart about the predicament and he said to bring in a reciept for the part and he would handle it. I purchase a lot from Walmart and they are very easy to work with and have never had a bad experience, yet everyone talks about evil Walmart. Why don't people like Walmart?
Walmart has not become wildly successful because people don't like it. Think about it.
If Walmart will steal from a brain damaged women they will steal from you.

Walmart gets money anyway they can. Walmart Pays For Brain Damaged Employee's Medical Bills, Then Sues For The Money Back

A Walmart employee was hit by a semi, leaving her permanently brain-damaged and in a wheelchair. Walmart paid for her medical fees and her family successfully sued the trucking company. Now Walmart wants all the money she got from the trucking company.

    http://video.yahoo.com/watch/2256176/710…

    http://consumerist.com/consumer/retail/w…Why don't people like Walmart?
They charge low prices by being notoriously bad in caring for their employees in wages and benefits. Just look at any of the mass action lawsuits that were filed against them.
I don't understand why everyone picks on Walmart There are many companies out there that are " evil " that you don't hear about it in the papers .lWhy don't people like Walmart?
They propogate sweat shops and screw mom and pop local businesses out of existence.
Walmart gears for its customer base to be just above the poverty line, while target aims about $20k per year higher. This comes out to cleaner stores and better customer service. Don't believe me? Look on wikipedia.

Secondly, Walmart causes a blight in any neighborhood because all the small businesses that compete with it get driven out by cut-rate prices. But it's not just that - those small business folks eat lunch, get their laundry done, bank, rent videos, visit doctors and dentists right near their businesses.. so when the first tier of businesses dry up, it hurts all the other ones!!!!

    Fooey on walmart.
It is easy to demonize Wal Mart because they offer low prices and questionable service. They do not give very good employee benefits, if any, but then the mom and pop operations usually give about the same wages and benefits. Besides where does it say that employers must give benefits? They do it to get employees. Also Wal Mart is very good about hiring people who would not get a job any place else, retirees, handicapped, mentally challenged, etc.

What about the fact that Wal Mart saves their customers money? WM allows many people to have more products because of theri low price. I buy many of my every day stuff at Wal Mart because they are close and have lower prices than the grocery stores. For high end stuff, like electronics and clothes other than work clothes I go to higher end stores for quality and servce.
I've often wondered about the hypocricy myself.......so true, so true. Oh, and don't forget the union workers or their wives who shop at Wal-Mart even though they are told not to....yeah, I'd rather work for a union who tells me where I can shop, when I can sh** and charge me every week to do so!

Is covering everything forward of the front doors with transmission fluid normal on a transmisson power flush?

Cause the valvoline instant oil change place up the street from me told me it was!!! I swore I would never go back,(even though the its cheaper to go there than to change the oil myself) after the guy told me I didn't care about my truck for not changing the air filter! (I don't get discounts on air filters so its cheaper to do it myself). Unfortunately I don't have a transmission flusher, so I took it up there!!

What struck me as odd, was after the smoke cleared from the transmission fluid on the exhaust manifold then getting the "did he see that" look from the dude under the hood, the girl that worked there looked at me confused like and said "oh, thats pretty normal"!!!! It may be a normal occurrance for them!! Is that the norm when you have gotten your transmission flushed??Is covering everything forward of the front doors with transmission fluid normal on a transmisson power flush?
That is definatly not normal. Poor workmanship. I would complain on that issue and have them clean it up. Sounds like they let a line get away from them and sprayed oil all over the place. I have done the same thing before but never let a customer pick up their vehicle in that condition. They should have cleaned the mess and told you about the situation and told you if you have any problems to be sure and bring it back for corrections. There is nothing wrong with making a mistake but trying to cover it up with "that's normal" is not very good business tactics. You are welcome to print and show them this and they are welcome to email me .... :) Been doing this for 40 years and my own business for 25
Like wise old sage says, it's far from normal! Don't go there again, they're a load of monkeys, and liars too. I'd insist on them cleaning the truck, except they'll probably make a mess of that too!Is covering everything forward of the front doors with transmission fluid normal on a transmisson power flush?
No way that sounds like some sloppy work to me. I took 3 year of auto mechanics in high school, so I could work on my own car. Sounds like they need bigger and better splash guards. Or new mechanics.
proper procedure is to remove and drain the pan from the transmission, change the filter, and clean the pan and replace the pan. then the flushing machine is hooked up to the transmission cooling lines and the flush is begun, checking to make sure the lines are the right way around, the transmision is filled with fluid, which is then circulated through filters to clean it out. while the vehicle is running when it is clean, the trans is emptied and refilled with clean fluid, it takes about 20 litres. the lines are reconected to the cooler and the job is done. if there was fluid all over then either a line came undone or they forgot to hook it up and sprayed your engine compartment, at the very least they should have shampooed the engine compartment and cleaned up the messIs covering everything forward of the front doors with transmission fluid normal on a transmisson power flush?
Normal trans maintenance is to clean the pan, replace the filter %26amp; fill'er with fluid. Never, never flush the transmission !
Definately Heck NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those guys are idiots that is not normal!!!!!!!!!!

    Prizm Engine Flush time?

I have a 2002 prizm, with about 75,000 miles, i'm suspecting i'm developing the famous Toyota Engine sludge problem. Would it be a good idea to flush the engine just this once as a preventive measure before anything gets out of hand? On another note I bought this car in 2004 with 34,000 miles on it, and it was in a pretty abused condition, like the previous owner didn't hammer it to the ground, but he somewhat took care of it. Ever since i purchased this car, i do oil changes around 2,700-3,000 miles, so I think im good on that. I take it to a Goodyear Gemini, and Firestone center to change the oil, but sometimes I take it to a Valvoline instant oil change.I have NEVER flushed the engine. So is it a good idea to flush it? Any other opinions? Options?Prizm Engine Flush time?
    Flushes are BAD.

Go here if you want to take an engine treatment approach:

    http://www.auto-rx.com/Prizm Engine Flush time?
Listen out of all of the Prizm's I have owned the 1999 model I had was the only one that I had to have the engine flushed every 6000-10,000 miles. I dont know why but that model 1998-2002 engines do have a sludge problem. The 1989-1997 models did not. However if the engine is quiet and isnt having any problems Im not sure if I would flush the engine or not. I mean if you have been changing the oil like you should have been you might not even have a sludge problem.Prizm Engine Flush time?
why do you think it needs flushed?if any thing i would remove the Valve cover and see if its getting sludged up then i would clean it out good and the returns and put a new gasket on,then run it for 5-10 mins then change the oil and filter.i dont like engine flush stuff.
if one does maintenance like one should..shouldnt never need to be flush and if your going to any quick oil change places your not getting it done right quick done mean good so if they not draining it they not getting it all out like it should be

Poor gas mileage. How can I improve it?

Recently, my Ford Focus has been getting some pretty crappy gas mileage. I thought that maybe it was because I needed to have my oil changed. I DEFINITELY had to have that taken care of, especially since the guys at Valvoline Instant Oil Change goofed on the mileage when I last went there to have the oil changed before the most recent visit. They were off by 20,000 miles before then. Since I got the oil change, I've felt a restoration in performance, but noticed no restoration in gas mileage. Before and after I got the oil change, I've been thinking of other things that could be harsh on the gas mileage *besides* occasionally using a little more gas mileage than I ought to use. Even when I don't do it, the mileage is *still* kinda low. My dad suggested that the air filter might need to be cleaned out. So I took it out and looked at it. It didn't look too bad; it wasn't really filthy or anything-- just some debris in the crevices, so I shook the filter out to get rid of any loose debris, cleaned it out the best I could, put the filter back in, latched the air filter housing back down, plugged the sensor back in, then went driving later on. Cleaning out the filter didn't do much good. My gas mileage *still* sucked. Well, I recently replaced the OE air filter with a K%26amp;N washable, reusable high-flow OE replacement filter. No improvement in gas mileage... yet. I probably still need to break it in. What else can I do to restore mileage?Poor gas mileage. How can I improve it?
I would change the spark plugs and perhaps the wires too if they look old. Weak spark will not let the car burn all the gas, as a result, you use more. Try a fuel injector cleaner also if it fuel injected. I am sure it is, but check it anyhow. If that does not get you a bit more mPG then take it to a shop. And check your air pressure in the tires!Poor gas mileage. How can I improve it?
tire pressure, plugs and wires, fuel filter, injector cleaning(take it to the shop not that autozone crap). air filter, replace o2 sensors all of them(can get pricey). most of all driving habits ther is nothing more you can really do. oh and air is 78% nitrogen that is a belle tire scamPoor gas mileage. How can I improve it?
Fix the air pressure in your tires.

    Learn to accelerate slowly.
first you need to define bad mileage with before and after numbers. air in the tires is negligable at best and the k%26amp;n filter is doing you more harm than good. An oil change, unless you were on the verge of being out of oi,l wont change performance. Is there an engine light on? Sometimes there are codes present that will stop the computer from running rediness monitors and that can cause a faulty part to not be flaged and no light will come on. Also to consider most cold markets use a diffrent formula of fuel in the summer and winter your computer may be taking a little longer to respond to the change.

05 chevy cavalier check engine light on after fuel system clean?

Ok heres the deal... I went to get an oil change at valvoline instant oil change- got talked into getting my fuel system cleaned. after a puff of black smoke came out and my car really hesitated to go. After it was completed they warned me that my check engine light may go on and if it does to come back and they would reset it for me at no charge. The check engine light did go on and I did go back.. they reset it, but it just keeps coming back on. They said it may be due to a pre-existing condition. Then they told me it might be the gas cap. I know how to put my gas cap on. The code is 0455 (gross emission leak detected) This is so annoying, did they mess up or is it the pre-existing condition as they said. Any help would be appreciated befor I run to the mechanic.05 chevy cavalier check engine light on after fuel system clean?
I own a shop, and do extensive computer diagnostics %26amp; repairs. I have seen this problem many times before, and the resolution is this; The position of your EGR valve is in a place that all that gunk they washed out of your throttle body went straight to, and is now causing it to stick. Once they start sticking, the only thing you can do, is have it replaced. What we do is this; When we clean a throttle body, we shove a long type rag down into the throttle body in order to catch the mess it makes, and to keep it out of the rest of the engine, as this stuff is not sensor safe. A long rag such as a whole sleeve from a shirt works really well, and is easy to pull back out once the cleaning is done. This is a "joke" if they told you it was a pre-existing conditon. What, are they doctors now?? Give me a break. Yeah... they messed your EGR valve up, and they ought to have to fix it. No, and, if, or but about it, they did it. Your light didn't come on before you took it to them, did it? Proving this is another thing, and the cost of just having it fixed is cheaper than getting into a law suit with them. Do this; Get a long pipe, or something that you can hit the EGR valve with, drive to their shop, and have them watch the check engine light when you rap on the EGR valve (at the base where it bolts to the engine, and not the cannister part), the engine starts running fine, and the light goes off. Now, point out the EGR is located under the throttle body, and ask them if they did anything to protect the EGR when they flushed all that crap down into the engine? No one can just let that stuff go into the engine without causing this problem, and it is a very common problem. I have repaired many vehicles that were taken to the quick lube places. Some we have had to go get with the tow truck because they wouldn't even run after the guys there worked on it. They are not mechanics, or do they have any certification as a mechanic. They strip bolts, and do a lot of damage to peoples vehicles, but I guess this is what you get when you go the cheap route. Sometimes cheaper is not always better, and in this case, it will cost over a $100 for a new EGR valve. If they told you it "might" be the gas cap, then it "might" be the engine blowing up to. In other words they have no idea, and should be ran out of town.

If you wish; you can print out this answer, and take it with you when you go there. I think its overwhelming that the real mechanics think they messed up.

Glad to help out, Good luck!!!
Sounds like whatever they "cleaned" your fuel system with has damaged the O2 sensor or ruined the EGR valve. Sorry! Don't let folks mess with your vehicle if it's been running fine to start with! Good luck! ;-)=05 chevy cavalier check engine light on after fuel system clean?
I know you know how to put your gas cap on but check the condition of the o-ring around the cap.
if they cleaned it with pressure they blew something out...preexisting condition? no lite when u drove in..now a lite.......it speaks for itself...they screwed it up!05 chevy cavalier check engine light on after fuel system clean?
    YES THEY DID.........................

THEY ARE PAID OFF COMMISSION SO IT IS THEIR JOB TO TALK YOU INTO AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AND THE SAD THING IS FIRST, YOU DON'T NEED 90% OF THE STUFF THAT THEY SAY AND SECOND, THEY ARE THE WORSE REPAIR SHOPS AROUND.

THEY ONLY HAVE PARTS RE-PLACERS THEY DO NOT HAVE QUALIFIED TECHNICIANS BUT THEY DO HAVE THEIR CERTIFICATES ON THE WALLS TO SAY THAT THEY ARE.

ANYONE CAN BECOME CERTIFIED BUT VERY FEW NOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND IN MY BUSINESS THESE SHOPS ALWAYS SEND THEY SCREWS UPS TO US TO REPAIR.

CONTACT THE CORPORATE OFFICE AND FILE A COMPLAINT, DON鈥橳 FILE WITH THE BBB BECAUSE THEY ARE A JOKE AS WELL.

BE VERY CALM AND STATE YOUR CASE, BE PERSISTENT BUT BE ON POINT AND THIS DOES WORK IN SOME CASES.

YOU CAN ALSO FILE WITH YOUR LOCAL ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE AND I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THEY HAVE A VERY LARGE FILE ON THEM.

  • Car Engline Help?

I have a 2002 Saturn L100 and I am having some problems. I went to a Valvoline Instant Oil change and got an oil change and 2 weeks later I noticed the car had a light and was running funny. Long story short I went to my mechanic and he said my engine is done, the cap wasn't put on right and oil was spilling out. My engine has a knocking sounds. Is my engine completely done or do I needs parts replaced can someone help me?Car Engline Help?
It's a shame that we trust these quick oil change places to perform maintence to our vehicles while they hire crack heads to perform the duties !! They have no education in auto-repair ! You really probably can't do much to hold them responsible becuase you drove the car for 2 weeks !! It's sad to say, but when they complete the work and you sign the work order,it says they are not responsible for any damages that occur due to the service. The shop whom completed the oil change probably does not even employ the same person that performed your oil change ! Good luck !!
If you drove it without oil in it, it would be cheaper to replace the whole engine. Sorry. No oil will mess up your lifters, pistons, and the engine all together. I would be contacting the person who done your oil change.Car Engline Help?
do U mean the oil filter was not put on right??

The fill cap is on the top of the engine but the oil filter is in line with the oil. that is the usual place where these guys scre it up. the outher place is the drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan.
    the mechanic is liable ...

He forgot to put the new oil in the engine, that is why He does not install the oil cap.

the engine has been running without oil and is totaled.

    get a lawyer...Car Engline Help?
probably all the oil spilled out from where the cap is suppose to be at. fill it back up with oil and see if the knocking stops, if not, then you have internal engine problems.

    Is it ok to...?

get my transmission fluid changed at valvoline instant oil change. or will i have to go to a dealer? how often does this need done.Is it ok to...?
Depends on what kind of car. If your talking MB, BMW, etc. I would go to the dealer or someone who specializes in that type car.

I'm not a real fan of the " instant oil change" people. Normally your talking inexperienced teens doing the job.

They also usually use cheap (Fram) filters and not factory recommended filters.

Normally the X-mission filter and fluid change is about 30,000 miles unless you are towing or some other hard usageIs it ok to...?
It the car has in excess of 100,000 miles, take it to a dealer for that sells that make of car. When the fluid and filter are changed, he will inspect and adjust the bands if necessary. He'll also advise you of any metal particles found in the transmission pan.

Transmission oil changes at instant oil change businesses are OK after a hard towing job or overheating of the engine since the radiator cools both the engine water and the transmission oil.Is it ok to...?
i'd take it to a dealer or transmission shop.

I let the ten minute oil change guys top up my windsheild washer fluid and not much more.

changing transmission fluid and filter typically calls for removing the entire pan from the bottom transmission, and can leave you stranded in a hurry if done poorly.
In your hand book it will tell you how often to get it done. The dealership does not charge as more as peolpe think. For warranty reasons you should bring it to the dealership.....you never know what else might be going on and they will look for all that for FREE!

I have a 2002 Ford Ranger Edge with a 3.0 V6 and a little over 90,000 miles on it (please read details)?

I have a 2002 Ford Ranger Edge with a little over 90,000 miles on it and it has the 3.0 engine. Just recently, like 2 weeks ago, It wouldn't start up the first time. I had to crank the engine over twice. When the truck has been sitting over 24 hours, you have to turn the engine over 5 times before it'll start.Could the fuel pump be going out, or would it be something electronic? I took it to The Valvoline instant oil change place to get the fuel filter changed thinking that was the problem and I told the guy what it was doing then he told me it probably wasn't my fuel filter and sent me away. Can any help me out here?I have a 2002 Ford Ranger Edge with a 3.0 V6 and a little over 90,000 miles on it (please read details)?
sounds like the fuel pump is failing..have a fuel pressure test done...i bet your fuel pressure is off and likely bleeding downI have a 2002 Ford Ranger Edge with a 3.0 V6 and a little over 90,000 miles on it (please read details)?
The people at valvoline are only paid a small amount, therefore they only have a small amount of knowledge. Your fuel filter is a likley cause of the problem, i would also have the fuel pressure checked, and the fuel regulator, if changing the fuel filter does not work. Another thought would be the fuel filter sock on the end if the fuel pump.I have a 2002 Ford Ranger Edge with a 3.0 V6 and a little over 90,000 miles on it (please read details)?
You would need to bring it to a mechanic shop that deals in driveability in my opinion on this one... There is a possibilty you are loosing the "prime" the fuel pump has to help in quick starts... (If you can't turn it over after cranking it one time.. try cycling the switch a couple of times and then trying.. if it starts then, it may be the fuel pump.

Also things to look for is the theft light on when cranking (Light flashing) and a mechanic shop would need to see if there are any codes (such as a cam posiiton sensor reading out) that can cause concern.

Usually on these however, if you normally run the tank toward the E, I'd more likely agree and say pump or the regulator that is part of the pump.
it could be the alternator. Go to auto zone and it checked out for free.

    96 Blazer A/C compressor replacement?

My current compressor is leaky. Currently there is no charge. I heard I should replace the compressor and the accumulator/dryer. Then somebody said put a special oil in the new compressor before installing it. Then get the system vacuumed and charged up. Can somebody specify a step by step instruction sheet for me on how to swap the parts? I'm having the charge done a Jiffy lube or Valvoline Instant Oil Change.96 Blazer A/C compressor replacement?
you need to replace the compressor accumulator and orifice tube along with flush the system, you wuill also need some pag oil to put in the new accumlator and compressor, first thin you need to do is to evacuate any refrigerant in the system, then you can disconnect the lines from the back of the ac compressor and remove the belt and the bolts from the ac compressor and remove the compresseor, then you need to disconnect the lines to the accumlator and remove the accumulator, the orifice tube is going to be in one of the lines on the passenger side inner fender going towards the condensor or the accumulator i forget which with out looking and seeing the vehicle, after you have replaced the orifice tube you need to add oil to the accumlator and the compressor before you reinstall, when you add ooil to the compressor turn the clutch several times after you put the oil in it and then reinstall your compressor bolts and belt, if you take it to jiffy lube and let them do the recharge then thats all you need to know but if you wanted to you could do the recharge yourself with stuff you can get at the local parts store like autozone which carries vacuum pumps and guages for ac so you can do the work yourself for less money96 Blazer A/C compressor replacement?
You might as well go flush about $500 down the toilet. Thats gonna be about how much you waste by you doing the replacements and jiffy lube doing the rest. Take the vehicle to a shop that does a/c work every day and rest in the knowledge that when you get it back, it will be done right.

fluids and if your car has over 75,000 miles on it do not allow the trans

to be flushed.Engine flush and transmission flush?
if you change oil when you should your car will never need flushing

shouldnt never flush a transmission or have to flush any thing

my car has over 380,000 never been touch

last car had over 480,000 miles was never flush

    radiator flush is wise

    just type into search box

    how to flush a radiator

    how to flush a motor

    how to flush a transmission

shop use a machine kind of like a vaccum cleaner of sorts sucks out old while pushing cleaner thruEngine flush and transmission flush?
engine flush is pour a bottle of flush in and let engine run for 5 min then drain and change oil regularly...

trans flush is hook it to a machine and push the start button......usually u also change filter and fluid on cars that it can b done on ....

btw unless they are different there than here u don't need experience to work there they will teach u...... which is one of the reason i NEVER would use a instant oil change place.......they have ppl that have never opened the hood of a car b4 working there...after 3 months ur fine ...but if u happen to catch one on his first day u could b fu@Ked.....

more important things would b do u know how to drive a stick shift??..that is usually a + in getting a job at a place like that.....u tell them u know how to drive a stick and they hire u.....

  • What should I wear to my interview?

I am going to apply tomorrow at Valvoline an instant change oil place and on the phone the man said dress business like. I was planning on wearing nice black dress pants, black loafers, and a nice silver dress shirt. It's nothing too fancy but it's a small step above average is that good? What should I wear to my interview?
Sounds pretty business-like to me. Do you have a blazer or suit jacket of some sort? That would make it even more professional looking, although what you have described will probably be fine. Also make sure that your hair is done nicely and everything is clean and wrinkle-free.

    Good luck!!
    Yes, it's good.

As long as you're business professionally dressed, you're fine. What should I wear to my interview?
you might wanna try white dress shirt it might be a little better than silver.. other than that you're good(:
Sounds goodWhat should I wear to my interview?

Left car running, idle for 2 hours, will that hurt?

I know this is crazy but I am extremely absent minded and went to a see a movie over the weekend and left my car running the entire time. The windows were rolled up all the way and it was about 80 degrees outside. When we got in it smelled pretty bad to me but it may have just been some fluids that were spilled under the hood of my car the day before by poorly trained technicians at Valvoline Instant Oil Change.

I've driven it for a few days now and everything seems fine, but I was curious if there may be some things I should look out for? Problems that may arise from it sitting in the heat turned on for so long?Left car running, idle for 2 hours, will that hurt?
I would look at all of the gauges for a while: temperature, oil, etc. I would also check the fluid levels: antifreeze, oil, transmission fluid etc. If everything checks out and the car is running okay then I wouldn't worry about it.
If your car is in good shape and everything is working, you should have no problems leaving it running (just wasting gas).Left car running, idle for 2 hours, will that hurt?
I wouldn't worry too much about it. As long as the car wasn't running hot (was the coolant temperature "idiot light" on or was the coolant temperature gauge showing it was in the red zone?), you should be fine. Idling is not easy on engines, but if you're changing your oil at 3,000 miles, you're in good shape.
At idle there is much less stress than while moving. As long as the cooling system kept the temp to proper running temps you are fine.

There is nothing wrong with letting it idle; other than wasting gas at 3$ a gallon and making the theft of your car very easy.Left car running, idle for 2 hours, will that hurt?
Need a little more info, did you happen to look at the temp gauge after you came out?

Believe it or not if the car is running fine (especially the cooling system) and if it is a newer car then everything is probably fine.

Chances are if it was overheating during the movie, something would have "popped" and blown your engine or at least a head gasket and some hoses.

If it was idling smoothly when you came out, then chances are everything is fine

    Hope this helps
