Valvoline instant oil change screwed up my motor. what do i do?

yesterday (saturday)i went to a valvoline instant oil change place with my car that i just bought 2 weeks ago ran fine with no ticks and the check engine light has never been on. i get the oil changed, go straight home and park it for the night , everthing seemed normal, the next morning i go out to the car to start it up. the motor is ticking and the check engine light is on. i am very pissed off to say the least, how should i handle this with out losing my cool?Valvoline instant oil change screwed up my motor. what do i do?
Your old car was probably getting by on high viscosity oil to quiet the lifter. It's a common cure for noisy lifters that bleed down due to high mileage. The used car lot wouldn't even know it unless they did it themselves, and good luck getting them to admit that.

The Valvoline guys probably just put in the spec oil which is a lot lighter than the lifter can handle. Lifters bleed down and tick because 1) the internal spring gets weak, or 2) sludge and varnish build up and clog the internal pump in the lifter. It then collapses.

You can do a couple of things besides going on a rant with a 75% chance of just being wrong. Add a quart of Marvel Mystery oil, and drive it for a few weeks. Change it out and do it again every 250 to 500 miles. If the lifter frees up, you will have no problem other than knowing the previous owner was not so good at maintenance. If it just won't stop, it will take a replacement set of new lifters to stop it. At that point I would add heavier weight oil to pump it up, or then decide whether I can live with the slight impact on mileage, or sell it.
Well, I could not tell you how to not lose you cool because I would have my foot up their a** so far they would choke on my shoe strings but first of all you need to make sure you dont do any more damage to it. It sounds like your oil may be low, check that and make sure its not leaking. After that find out why the check engine light is on you can have that read at autozone or a repair shop. Finally if there is any damage make sure you keep documentation of everything and then talk to the shop owner and tell them (yes I say tell instead of ask) that they need to repair the damage, if any. Just be sure that you talk with someone first to be sure it was caused from them since they cannot be liable for any previous damage and thats what they will try and say it is.Valvoline instant oil change screwed up my motor. what do i do?
check your oil level- if its full most likely its not their fault. it may have been like that before and the previous owner put a thicker oil in it ex- 10w-40 or higher

芦Good Luck禄
First thing first. be nice, being rude and mean will get you know where. I'd just take your car back and ask them to look over their work, and explain to them what has happen. I'm sure if they see something that they did wrong they will work to get it corrected. Try to be right beside them while they check it out.Valvoline instant oil change screwed up my motor. what do i do?
have you checked you oil yet? if the oil is full, it is most likely not valvolines fault.
Check for oil under your car first off. Unless something was knocked loose during the oil change or the oil is leaking from the filter or drain plug, it has nothing to do with the oil change. However if something is loose, it would've acted funny immediately after the oil change. It sounds like it could be that the previous owner didn't change the oil often and there could've been old oil in there. When you changed the oil, it brought out a problem that was hidden but was unnoticed. It could be something else, but that's what is usually the case from my experience. Also, have you checked for spark plug wires? One could've been knocked loose while they were inserting the dipstick and/or the wire(s) could be bad. The symptoms you mentioned could be something minor. Don't listen to people when they say look for a new car. That's to be expected from people who know nothing about cars. That's why they get ripped off when it's time to service or repair their cars. If you could've purchased a new car, I'm sure you would have. Get that one checked out or check it yourself. It would suck to invest in a new car when this one might just need an inexpensive repair repair or a wire reconnected to be healthy again
I would price some new vehicles at the car dealership and tell them your trade in is going to be a tow in.
