Lost Check at work?

Im freaking out right now, I work at National Tire%26amp; Battery, today this lady gave me a check for like $646 and some change, I forgot how much exactly the ceck was but my manager called me and said when he was balncing the register out that check was missing, and I cant remember where it is, what happens next? can we void it, and get another one written? What happens if the customer wants to be a jerk and say"No, im not paying"?Lost Check at work?
I hate to say this, but you may have been scammed. If the check does not show up at work and you cannot remember taking it from the customer and putting it into the cash drawer, she may well have not handed the check to you or confused you and taken it back.

If the woman is a loyal customer, your boss may be able to contact her and ask her to cancel the original check and issue another one. She may actually inadvertedly put her checkbook away after writing the check, and just forgot to take the check out of the checkbook and hand it to you.

Make sure that your manager pulls the drawer completely out and checks in the area where the drawer slides into, under the springs and in between the drawer itself and the insert that holds the bills and coins, static has been known to cause checks to slide in between the drawer(s) and inserts and cause them to stick out of sight.

Make sure that you or he looks under the actual drawer also, and everywhere below the cash out area, pull forward all the wires from the computer tower and look on the shelf or shelves below the area, it could have fallen as you were taking it, if you got distracted; and you didn't realize it.

If you live close enough to travel to the store and help your manager look for the check, you should do so. Even if you offer to go in and help look, that will be a helpful gesture on your part.

Hopefully, the check will be found and you will not be having a talk with your manager concerning the responcibily of handling cash for the business.

Think positive, it will most likely turn up and everything will be fine. If it does not, and you still remain working there, you will have to become more dilligent about completing sales transactions and putting all forms of payment securely where they belong before the customer leaves the premises.

Good luck, I hope everything works out well for you.
You can probably try and get another, but if they say that they won't write another one...then I'm not sure what to do. If I was the buyer than how would I know that the check was really lost or that if you did find it that you would shred it? Those would be my concerns as a consumer. It wouldn't be my fault that the check was lost.Lost Check at work?
You can offer to pay the "stop payment" fee that the customer will be charged by her bank for cancelling that check. Then all she's out is another check from her checkbook, and those are cheap.
if u can track the customer they will oblige(kinda by law i think)Lost Check at work?
This is just a thought, but you could contact the customer and ask her if she could put a stop payment on the check (your company should re-imburse her the fee to do that) and write another check. I think if you explain the situation with her you shouldn't have a problem. One thing, check underneath the drawer in the till. Sometimes cash or checks fall in that area.
I would ask the woman to put a stop payment on the chack but take $20 off of her bill (or whatever the amount is that her bank charges to stop payment) most people will be understanding about it especially if you compensate her the cost.
I hate to say it but you are pretty screwed dude...

The customer provided you with payment and if you go after them they will most likely say "Your Fault... Too Bad... I can't prove the check is "lost"."

It is on the heads of the company that lost it... not the customer... because the customer acted in good faith and provided payment upon request.

But the big question is:

WHO

LOST

IT?

You or your manager?

If you are sure that the check ended up where the check was supposed to go then the manager could have lost it when he was moving the contents from the register to the office or where ever he counts it?

If there is no way to prove who lost it you shouldn't be held responsible because it might not have been you!!!!

Just stay calm...

Think things out logically...

Do what you can to help...

DON'T ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY UNTIL YOU ARE SURE WHAT HAPPENED!!!!

Hopefully it just slid under something and will be found in the morning!!

Good Luck! *HUG*
