My current compressor is leaky. Currently there is no charge. I heard I should replace the compressor and the accumulator/dryer. Then somebody said put a special oil in the new compressor before installing it. Then get the system vacuumed and charged up. Can somebody specify a step by step instruction sheet for me on how to swap the parts? I'm having the charge done a Jiffy lube or Valvoline Instant Oil Change.96 Blazer A/C compressor replacement?
you need to replace the compressor accumulator and orifice tube along with flush the system, you wuill also need some pag oil to put in the new accumlator and compressor, first thin you need to do is to evacuate any refrigerant in the system, then you can disconnect the lines from the back of the ac compressor and remove the belt and the bolts from the ac compressor and remove the compresseor, then you need to disconnect the lines to the accumlator and remove the accumulator, the orifice tube is going to be in one of the lines on the passenger side inner fender going towards the condensor or the accumulator i forget which with out looking and seeing the vehicle, after you have replaced the orifice tube you need to add oil to the accumlator and the compressor before you reinstall, when you add ooil to the compressor turn the clutch several times after you put the oil in it and then reinstall your compressor bolts and belt, if you take it to jiffy lube and let them do the recharge then thats all you need to know but if you wanted to you could do the recharge yourself with stuff you can get at the local parts store like autozone which carries vacuum pumps and guages for ac so you can do the work yourself for less money96 Blazer A/C compressor replacement?
You might as well go flush about $500 down the toilet. Thats gonna be about how much you waste by you doing the replacements and jiffy lube doing the rest. Take the vehicle to a shop that does a/c work every day and rest in the knowledge that when you get it back, it will be done right.
