Are class action suits going overboard now?

I have to say, I've been getting a lot of notices lately telling me how happy I should be to be involved in a class action suit against so and so for such and such.

The latest one, today in fact, was from a scummy lawyer in Florida who is suing "on my behalf" valvoline instant oil changes for their "enviornmental service fees". He is claiming 250,000.00 for "us" and 1,044,000.00 for himself/his firm.

Oh, and the 250,000.00 is shared by everyone who's gotten an oil change in the last year or 2 via a $5.00 off coupon.

So, I get a 5 dollar coupon, he gets 1.04 million dollars.

Now I see bayer is being sued, again, on my behalf, over some alleged price fixing on rubber chemicals, making prices of rubber items go up. Lawyers are seeking 4.2 million, 1/3 of which goes to them with an additional "service fee" of 1,500.00 per person they're representing. On top of that, you don't have to do anything to be represented, but you DO have to request NOT to be.Are class action suits going overboard now?
There is a trend. These small-claims court shows aren't helping much either.
Sometimes it takes a class action to correct a problem affecting millions of people. If large companies are not held to standards, we will all suffer; until there is a "better" way to correct these problems, or until large companies "do the right thing", this is really the most effective avenue to correct the problem and make them realize they are being watched. It's a lot of work, it's usually years of litigation and it's not cheap to do the investigation. Are class action suits going overboard now?
Class action lawsuits are always about the attorney and never about the 'victims'. So, yes they went overboard the minute the fist judge allowed the first 'class action' suit to be filed.

My favorite was against a credit card company. They were accused of not properly disclosing how payments are applied to various type of balances. Specifically, they did not say lower rate balances were paid before higher rate balances. They DID say payments were applied 'at the banks discretion'. Who didn't know that meant in the order that resulted in the highest interest charges?
You will get ( with a reciept of the oil change) the amount you paid for the EPA charge. The suit was that the oil change firm charged an ilelgal fee for EPA disposal.

So if you have all of your receipts and turn them in, you will get the amount of the charge plus a small other amount.

This will be only a few dollars per oil change you may have gotten.

and yes the lawyers will be getting millions from the deal for helping all of us poor people.

How do you think the ACLU makes all of its money sueing schools and county governemnts on "our" behalf,

And the great thing on the 5 dollar off coupon is that you can stack them, get others to give you thiers and you can hand them 5 or 6 and get a free oil change. Are class action suits going overboard now?
I receive mail for about 4-5 class actions per month now, I have recieved from Verizon and Hilton Hotels in the past week
Yes. Only the lawyers make money from them.
i think that they are a waste of time... after all the time you put into them you only get a couple bucks out of them and the company probably wont change anything because of it
I think your right
YES

Lawyers are out of control and just out to make a buck.
Good for the 1.04 million dollar guy. Oil companies and pharmaceuticalsobber barons to the 10th power, ripping off the sick, making us sick, they deserve No sympathy. They feed themselves by crushing the little guy. No crocodile tears shed here!!!
