Ok, I know about KBB and Nada. I can find the retail value, the private party values (excellent/good/poor) and the trade-in values of used cars. What about the wholesale value? I understand that this is the guide the dealers use to determine the price for the cars they sell. I also understand that this value varies daily. Does anyone know of an online source (free would be great, low-cost would be ok) where you can go to get the inside line on the wholesale cost of cars (to better position oneself in bargaining with dealers)?Guide to wholesale value of used cars?

Oh yeah, and KBB is not a tool for pricing cars. It is a bargaining tool for sellers, particularly dealers. It lists things that are expected of a dealer to command those dealer prices (which, if you look at dealer ads, and prices on most dealer lots, and talk to people who bought cars at dealers, they don't actually command), but a lot of dealers will try and get you to ignore them. (Dealer cars are supposed to be in better condition than private party cars...supposed to be but often aren't.) Also when was the last time you saw an ad for a (non-sports, non-collector) car that didn't say "below blue book," or which wasn't below blue book? That means blue book is wrong.
Bluebook is horseshit. NADA (National Automobile DEALERS Association) is as well, but not as bad. Edmunds is a little more independent and realistic.
ALL of their regional adjustments are horseshit. ALL of them.
Supposedly black book is taken from actual auction sales data. I know of at least one auto wholesale buyer who swears by it. It is not free, but it is not expensive.
You can read all the books and guides you can find but you will never know the true cost of a car until you have worked in this market for about 2 or 3 years... Today's market is priced by all the factors of a vehicle's attributes --- looks, motor, mileage, tires, interior gingerbread, wear and tear, dings, paint job, dirt under the hood, ---- see what I talking about............ YOU have to decide what a particular car is worth to you and does it look good and do you look good in the ride,,?? ETC%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; if it appears to be priced about right then it most likely IS FOR YOU.........Guide to wholesale value of used cars?
