I own a shop, and do extensive computer diagnostics %26amp; repairs. I have seen this problem many times before, and the resolution is this; The position of your EGR valve is in a place that all that gunk they washed out of your throttle body went straight to, and is now causing it to stick. Once they start sticking, the only thing you can do, is have it replaced. What we do is this; When we clean a throttle body, we shove a long type rag down into the throttle body in order to catch the mess it makes, and to keep it out of the rest of the engine, as this stuff is not sensor safe. A long rag such as a whole sleeve from a shirt works really well, and is easy to pull back out once the cleaning is done. This is a "joke" if they told you it was a pre-existing conditon. What, are they doctors now?? Give me a break. Yeah... they messed your EGR valve up, and they ought to have to fix it. No, and, if, or but about it, they did it. Your light didn't come on before you took it to them, did it? Proving this is another thing, and the cost of just having it fixed is cheaper than getting into a law suit with them. Do this; Get a long pipe, or something that you can hit the EGR valve with, drive to their shop, and have them watch the check engine light when you rap on the EGR valve (at the base where it bolts to the engine, and not the cannister part), the engine starts running fine, and the light goes off. Now, point out the EGR is located under the throttle body, and ask them if they did anything to protect the EGR when they flushed all that crap down into the engine? No one can just let that stuff go into the engine without causing this problem, and it is a very common problem. I have repaired many vehicles that were taken to the quick lube places. Some we have had to go get with the tow truck because they wouldn't even run after the guys there worked on it. They are not mechanics, or do they have any certification as a mechanic. They strip bolts, and do a lot of damage to peoples vehicles, but I guess this is what you get when you go the cheap route. Sometimes cheaper is not always better, and in this case, it will cost over a $100 for a new EGR valve. If they told you it "might" be the gas cap, then it "might" be the engine blowing up to. In other words they have no idea, and should be ran out of town.
If you wish; you can print out this answer, and take it with you when you go there. I think its overwhelming that the real mechanics think they messed up.
Glad to help out, Good luck!!!
Sounds like whatever they "cleaned" your fuel system with has damaged the O2 sensor or ruined the EGR valve. Sorry! Don't let folks mess with your vehicle if it's been running fine to start with! Good luck! ;-)=05 chevy cavalier check engine light on after fuel system clean?
I know you know how to put your gas cap on but check the condition of the o-ring around the cap.
if they cleaned it with pressure they blew something out...preexisting condition? no lite when u drove in..now a lite.......it speaks for itself...they screwed it up!05 chevy cavalier check engine light on after fuel system clean?
YES THEY DID.........................
THEY ARE PAID OFF COMMISSION SO IT IS THEIR JOB TO TALK YOU INTO AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AND THE SAD THING IS FIRST, YOU DON'T NEED 90% OF THE STUFF THAT THEY SAY AND SECOND, THEY ARE THE WORSE REPAIR SHOPS AROUND.
THEY ONLY HAVE PARTS RE-PLACERS THEY DO NOT HAVE QUALIFIED TECHNICIANS BUT THEY DO HAVE THEIR CERTIFICATES ON THE WALLS TO SAY THAT THEY ARE.
ANYONE CAN BECOME CERTIFIED BUT VERY FEW NOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND IN MY BUSINESS THESE SHOPS ALWAYS SEND THEY SCREWS UPS TO US TO REPAIR.
CONTACT THE CORPORATE OFFICE AND FILE A COMPLAINT, DON鈥橳 FILE WITH THE BBB BECAUSE THEY ARE A JOKE AS WELL.
BE VERY CALM AND STATE YOUR CASE, BE PERSISTENT BUT BE ON POINT AND THIS DOES WORK IN SOME CASES.
YOU CAN ALSO FILE WITH YOUR LOCAL ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE AND I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THEY HAVE A VERY LARGE FILE ON THEM.
GOOD LUCK AND REMEMBER THERE ARE A LOT OF GOOD INDEPENDENT SHOPS OUT THERE THAT TREAT THE CUSTOMER LIKE A PERSON AND NO JUST LIKE A NUMBER.
