How much should I offer him?

I am looking on buying a 1967 Impala 4 door sedan (not hardtop).

http://www.trader.ca/Search/Details.asp?鈥?/a>

He gave me other pictures that show more details (solid frame). At closer inspection of the car (in the pictures) shows alot of scratches, a few rust spots around the fender and spots where bondo was applied.

Ive checked nada guides, http://www.manheimgold.com and http://www.collectorcarmarket.com/menus/鈥?/a> and they all vary from 3000$ to 5000$ in good condition.

I tried emailing him using a different email address and offered him 3000$ and he replied asking closer to the asking price.

Any suggestions what I should offer him because I know that 8200$ is pretty steep for that car because the 2 door with a 283 usualy go for that price.

I was thinking something on the lines between 4 and 5000$ tops.|||offer him $4500 and send the links you checked to show him you have done your homework|||$4,750|||remind him that it is a 4-door, not a 2-door. (not as desirable)|||tell him 4300 is your cap - and dont let him negotiate you down... cite the scratches, and show him the report of value that you found.|||check out Kelly blue book, and make your offer. Remember the car is going to have sentimental value to the owner, but don't let that affect reason. Good luck.|||4000 Is a lot for that......stay under 4 and let some other buyer over pay for it.........you need to save your money for gas in that hog|||How bad do you want the car? If he is asking $8200, there is no way he would let it go for half of the asking price. Think about it, if you were selling your car and somebody offered you half of the asking price, you would be insulted! I suggest you move on and look for another ride. If it is still there in 3 weeks, then try to low ball. Chances are it was put up for sale for that price to "test the water" to see if he gets any bites.|||tell you right now the 2dr hard top is worth more than the 4dr is.
